Fireplaces Then and Now

The emergence of fireplaces as used in homes can be dated in the centuries where kings and queens rule over people and where countries were referred to as kingdoms. Though the existence of fireplaces can be traced hundreds of years ago, the purposes of their existence have not changed. How fireplaces where used in those times are still the same on how fireplaces are used today. But even if their purposes did not change, what has transformed was the appearance of fireplaces because there is now a large difference on how fireplaces looked centuries ago to how fireplaces look now.

The ancient fireplaces were made of bricks, stone, and sand, and they are meticulously built in a central area of a home. The ancient fireplace was usually built to have a chimney, where smoke can come out as wood is burned in it. The structure of the ancient fireplace represented strength that is why even after so many years, old houses still have the same fireplace that has been there from generation to generation.

Today, modern versions of fireplace have emerged to address the requirements of different houses. To solve the problem of access to wood sources, gas and electric fireplaces were created. The gas fireplace utilized butane as its source of power while the electric fireplace used electricity. The gas and electric fireplaces are considered to be more practical choices today in terms of installation in a home since no additional construction is required to make them functional. Also, you do not need to have a chimney to run both fireplaces because they do not produce smoke since there is no “burning” that takes place. Both are better choices for the environment and functionality-wise, they are just similar to the ancient fireplace.
